Reflections from a pilgrimage to Bury

Lord, teach us to pray

So, walking around Bury on pilgrimage is already providing much opportunity to pray. But how to pray, for people and places?

One approach that I learned from the good people at LICC was to adapt part of the Lord’s Prayer to the situation you are in. So, here’s my version that I have been using on my walks. You could adapt it for a single home, street, district, town or nation. I am finding it helpful.

Father in heaven…in Bury, may your name be hallowed,
Father….in Bury, may Your Kingdom come,
Father….in Bury, may your will be done, as in heaven

Father …. you are offering daily bread,
…. you are offering forgiveness of sins,
…. you are offering deliverance from evil,
to the people of Bury.

For Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory
May the people of Bury know this to be true and
May the people of Bury ask and receive.
Amen.

Being born & bred in Bury, I appreciate & find encouragement, in your adaptation, John, of the prayer Jesus taught His disciples to pray & will contemplate on it.
